Varsity Girls Basketball vs. Mt. Sinai, January 10 – by Bruce Avery Siska

East Hampton Bonackers Girls varsity basketball team loses to Mount Sinai, 15-64.

Emma Silvera lead the pack offensively with 7 points, followed by Alden Powers (2), Jennifer Ortiz (2), Kailey Marmeno (2), and Emily Brewer (2).

After the Varsity team broke their 100 game losing streak by defeating Hampton Bays 36-33, they dropped the next two games, losing to Shoreham Wading River 19-48, and then to Wyandanch only 35-40. But the Girls Varsity team played a good game against Mount Sinai. Defensively, the Bonackers were great at covering the open players despite Mt. Sinai’s ability to move and pass the ball efficiently. They were also able to force turnovers on defense, but the ball just refused to go in for the Girls.

On Offense, they were able to execute a couple of very good plays and fooled Mt. Sinai at times. They also were able to pass the ball well and create space for the shooters to do what they do. Overall even though the Varsity team was down, they were certainly not out. They played their hardest to the last second. We hope to see this kind of mentality in their future games, and resulting in a win.

Yours in sports, Bruce Avery Siska.
